Blog 3 of 6 - Pithi Ceremony - Rane & Sashi
Freeland Photography has a lot of experience photographing Hindu weddings. We hope you enjoyed Rane and Sashi’s previous 2 blogs (engagement photos and henna party).
The pithi ceremony is ritual performed for good luck. The bride had her ceremony at her mother’s house. Pithi is a paste made mainly of turmeric, chickpea flour and rose water.
It was nice seeing Rane’s family members apply the paste to her skin. It is also thought to even and brighten the skin tone.
It was so funny to see her brother’s apply the paste to their sister…so much fun!
Sashi had his Snatakam ceremony at the Hindu Temple in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. This ceremony is to show the groom’s readiness for marriage. He left with his cane and umbrella until he is stopped by the brother of the bride!
The combined hours of our staff photographing the events last weekend totaled 42 HOURS behind the camera for the ceremony and festivities! Wow our longest event capturing ever!
Thank you to all the great vendors we worked along side all weekend!
