Photo Classes

Upcoming Photo 101 Classes (group classes no longer offered)

Mike Freeland is still offering 1 on 1 training for $100 per hour Monday-Thursday. To inquire about 1 on 1 training email Mike Freeland. Make sure to include your experience, camera gear, and what you are looking to train/improve.

After 8 years of teaching group photo classes on weekends we have decided to put these on hiatus for at least the remainder of the 2019 calendar year.

Thank you to all our wonderful students and clients that continue to refer us!

Photo 101 Group Class (on hiatus for 2019)

This group class is a complete camera operation class teaching you the functions of your DSLR camera with the Program Settings (program, shutter priority, aperture priority, and full manual mode). Our goal is for everyone to leave this class with the knowledge of how to shoot manually on all program dials (dialing in all the settings and balancing exposure to achieve the perfect result).

  • Speed up/slow down time. Change to a deep and shallow depth of field (a faster lens is recommended but not required for the class. 1.8 is an example of a faster lens able to shoot in low light/shallow depth of field).
    Here is a link to Canon’s 50mm 1.8 to Nikon’s 50mm 1.8
  • Learn why and how to perfect exposure compensation.
  • You will also receive our camera handout to use for future quick reference!
  • We do have a couple of cameras available to borrow during the class (rent on a first come/first serve basis).
  • New classes are limited and fill in fast.

Please register for this class by completing the form to the right. We ask that you arrive 20 minutes prior so we may get everyone checked in and start on time. If you have a Groupon/Living Social please bring it with your, either paper copy or digital copy. If you purchased a Groupon/Living Social and it is expired, you are required to pay $40 additional. You may also purchase this class directly through the studio emailing jill@freelandphotography.com. You must bring the receipt with you to class.

If you need to reschedule, please do so via our website and put in the notes section that you are rescheduling.

If you have any questions regarding the class, you may reach Jill at: jill@freelandphotography.com

Please note: This class is better suited for owners of DSLR or MILC (mirrorless) cameras. However if the main dial on your camera has these modes (M=Manual, TV or S=Shutter Priority, A or AV=Aperture Priority, P=Program) your camera will work for the class. Point and shoot camera’s (Canon Power Shot & Nikon Cool Pix) are not recommended for this class.

FAQ

  • What class is my Groupon/Living Social/Amazon voucher good for?

Groupon/Living Social/Amazon vouchers are ONLY eligible for our Photo 101 Class. 1 on 1 training is excluded from these Groupon sites, but a great add-on once you have taken the group class!
  • How do I sign up for a class?

By using the form to the right. One person per form please.
  • Do I need to purchase the class before I sign up?

Yes! You may email, jill@freelandphotography, or call our studio at 816-287-3503 and pay online or over the phone to reserve your spot in the class(es) of your choice.
  • Do I need to take Photo 101 before taking other photo classes?

Yes! Photo 101 is a prerequisite of any photo class because you will need to feel 100% comfortable shooting in Manual mode.
  • How many people do you allow in each class?

Photo classes are generally 12-15 people. First come/first serve...so realize weekend classes fill up fast!
  • When will you add more class times?

If you don't see class times for next month, don't fret! As current class times fill up and the following month approaches, new times are added. So check back!
  • Cancellation Policy?

Once you reserve your date and time, your seat will be held. If you discover you cannot attend the date/time you signed up, we encourage you to find a substitute to attend the class or give us at least 7 business days notice. If you are unable attend, cannot find a substitute, and give us less than 7 business days notice we cannot guarantee we can find a replacement and transfer you to another class. We understand emergencies occur, but we need time to post on social media and try to refill your seat.
  • What if I have a large group signing up for a class?

Since there is limited space in each class, we suggest you call instead of signing up online. There may or may not be enough spots left for everyone.
  • What if my voucher is expired?

If your voucher has expired you'll need to pay the difference ($40) from the price listed on the website ($99).
  • Want more?

Does our photo 101 class leave you wanting to know more about photography? Schedule a 1 on 1 training with any of our instructors. Whether its shooting sports, portraits, landscapes, or just getting your questions answered before a critical shoot. We can schedule this one on one learning to a time that fits your schedule. Email studio@freelandphotography.com for more information.
  • How much is the class?

When purchased directly through our studio, the class is $55.

Wedding Apprenticeship

Love weddings? Want to be a professional wedding photographer? Knot.com Wedding Hall of Fame professional Mike Freeland chooses 1-2 apprentices per year to do one on one teaching with. Learn everything he can offer from over 2 decades of wedding experience. Photo critiques will encourage you to grow and shoot better behind the camera. Too many photographers rely heavily on post production to fix, rather than using digital to enhance what is already great straight from the camera! At the end of the year long apprenticeship a job opportunity may be available with our studio for like minded individuals (must have the same core principals and work ethic as our team :)
